Let's Get Fiiiscal is a community of friends looking to help each other achieve financial goals! So often people do not discuss finances though we interact with them constantly with each other. We are friends looking to break down money talk barriers and help each other get to our next financial step.
I'm Dom - Founder of this community, a Personal Finance Specialist, and full-time sales engineer. My husband Josh (below) and I recently relocated from the SF Bay Area to Chicagoland for my job and his law school. In our very little free time we love to travel and read!
I created this community as a way to get conversations about finances going across different communities and backgrounds. Money discussions are very intimate but over the years I've realized that there are a lot of people who are willing to share! The only issue is the sharing occurs within small silos that limit us to only our personal experience.
I've been on the debt free journey since graduating college a little over 5 years ago. My husband is fortunate to have never had loans but at the end of 2019 we became a debt free household! I discovered my passion for personal finance when I started my first job making about $60k and finding myself further in debt after a year of work and knowing something was not right! I hope to share everything I've learned going from a net worth of -$32k to over $100k in just five years. My goal is to help you become debt free just like me and we will eventually become financially independent!
I'm Josh - I manage the technology related issues for this community. I come from a computer engineering background but have had various other ventures! I quit my first job after three years of working to travel across the US, Canada, and some of Eastern Europe. During my first few years of working I saved aggressively, lived with my mother and was able to fund my time off as well as a dream vacation for myself and Dom to go to the 2014 World Cup in Brasil. I am a first generation college student and was raised by parents who successfully managed their own small business. I was fortunate to not have debt. My hobbies outside of law school and work are: soccer, eating, traveling, and working out.
Our current financial goal as a couple is to save as much as possible for the possibility of early retirement, while living life the way we want.
I’m Pat - an investor, a writer, a math and science tutor, and an aircraft electrician for the US Air Force. I’ve been blessed debt-free my whole life, and that advantage has helped me grow my capital in ways uncommon to our generation. From my unique journey I’ve come upon some interesting insights, and through Let’s Get Fiiiscal I intend to share everything I can with you!
My current goals are purchasing a house to live in and rent, with the intention of growing capital and earning passive income while going back to school to get a master’s that will be military-funded, and to learn more and increase my earning capability. A foundational philosophy behind my fiscal decisions has been lowering my bottom line. I decrease general expenses, live a comfortable, modest life, cook for myself (do not underestimate this money saver), and access federal aid through military membership, all with the intention of saving more.
Because at the end of the day, when it comes to fiscal success, it’s not about revenue, it’s about profit.
I'm Kay - An Editor of this community, self-taught pseudo chef, and full-time safety engineer. My current financial goal is to completely pay off $10k of credit card debt within one year! I’m months away and counting. My life goal is to travel the world drinking wine, eating luxuriously, and soaking in all the culture!
I'm Tera - An Editor of this community, music festival enthusiast, and full-time environmental engineer. Saving money is my specialty - I believe that every penny counts! My excellent ability to hold on to my earnings has helped me feel financially stable and independent. Detail-oriented, I budget everything to the cent and it has really paid off over the years, whether it got me a box of tea or my pretty red car. My saving habits even allowed me to pay off all of my student loans within 8 months of starting my career. Since then, I’ve paid off my car, funded several travel adventures with friends and family, enjoyed many a festival, and can honestly say that I’m proud of my emergency fund and retirement contributions. My current financial goals are to grow my net worth and raise my salary with my continued hard work ethic and negotiation skills. When I’m not dancing and taking pics at a festival, I’m creating jewelry, baking cupcakes, cleaning, or binging on Netflix.
